Red Lip Challenge Week #6
This week I am writing from the comfort of my families motorhome, currently parked in a beautiful KOA campground in Virginia. We’re spending the weekend with my brother, who moved down there almost a year ago now. The four of us spent the weekend getting mildly sunburnt and taking walks for the sole purpose of getting ice cream. It feels a lot closer to Summer down here then it does back on Long Island (hence the sunburn). It’s such a tease. Is anyone else not so patiently waiting for summer?
This week brought a diverse range of shades, formulas, and ratings. My biggest accomplishment this week, was my small step toward dominating the Kat Von D Liquid Lipstick formula. I refuse to be defeated by it. Also this week, I fell completely in love with a liquid lipstick formula. Keep reading to find out more.
The Line Up
Yves Saint Laurent
Kat Von D
Maybelline: Superstay Matte Ink
Type: Matte Liquid Lipstick
I am in LOVE with this lipstick. It applies like a dream. Its thick enough that you feel in control of the application and it applies phenomenally evenly with a single swipe. The shade is my favorite kind of red; a true red. It’s just gorgeous! What I love the most about this formula is the wear. It is a matte formula but it is not uncomfortable until about halfway through the day. Even when it feels like it should look terrible, you’ll look in the mirror and see that it still looks amazing. The wear time on this lipstick will blow your mind. There is absolutely nothing bad to say about this one… except that it is a little difficult to take off. A bit of scrubbing or a waterproof makeup remover will do the trick. Regardless, I cannot recommend this one enough.
Yves Saint Laurent: Rouge Pur Couture
Shade: Le Rouge
As beautiful as this shade is, it has a tendency to wander outside the lip line. The formula is very thin and slick, which makes it look beautiful and wear very comfortable. However, it makes it difficult to control. It bled terribly into the lines around the edge of my lips which, makes me have to downgrade its rating. Based on the color and this picture alone, I would have given this a Love rating, It’s just too bad I couldn’t love the formula.
Bite Beauty: Matte Cream Lip Crayon
We know that I am a fan of the Bite Beauty’s ingredients, wear, and scent. It’s really only a matter of shade preference. This formula is just as good as the past ones I have reviewed in this series. The shade is not my favorite but it is by no means an ugly shade, just not a favorite. It skews a little Fuchsia with blue undertones. I am not the hugest fan of reds that lean toward pink. If you are into pinky reds you’ll love this one though and it is a wonderful formula.
Edward Bess: Ultra Slick Lipstick
Shade: Midnight Bloom
Type: Cream Lipstick
I reviewed this formula in Week #4 and have the same thoughts on this one that I did on that one. The shades on the other hand, are a bit different. The shade from Week #4 (Eternal Passion) was a little warmer than this weeks shade. I do like this one better. We all know that I love blue reds and this one is just that. I’m a big fan of the formula and big fan of the shade so I had to put it in the Love category.
Bite Beauty: Amuse Bouche
Type: Cream Lipstick
As I have said above, I love the Bite Beauty formulas. This one is a little different than the others… and not really in a good way. It may be because of the shade. This is notoriously a difficult shade to formulate. This lipstick applied a little patchy but not anything unmanageable. I would still wear it but the other shades I have tried are a lot more even and user friendly. It’s not nearly as difficult to apply as the following lipstick.
Kat Von D: Everlasting Liquid Lip
Type: Matte Liquid Lip
In the ongoing battle between myself and the Kat Von D Liquid Lipstick formula, I am making some headway. I had a much better time applying this shade than I have with past shades. I think what might be a big part of applying this evenly is confidence. I just went for it and it seemed to have work. In a more analytical analysis of the application, I’d have to say that it was the quick and thin application that made it apply better this time. That might be the key to the formula. You have to work fast and in a single swipe.
